Blast from the past

Damn, the things you find when looking through old files. Haven't touched this in almost 10 years so I started reading old posts.

I miss my mom and grandma so much. I'm so glad my mom was able to go up in the hot air balloon. She had the blood clot and stroke not too long afterwards, then had more. The doctor said it wasn't a matter of "if" she would have another stroke, but "when".

She was only 59 when she passed, and it wasn't a stroke, they said it was congestive heart failure. I got the call on a Thursday that she was in the hospital again and I was going to wait until after work Friday to drive down, but my boss told me to just go, so I did. When I got there she was asleep and had a breathing tube or mask, I wasn't sure and they didn't let me stay long. The next morning when we (Tom and I) got there she was awake and didn't have the tube. Mom, Tom and I spent the day talking, watching TV and other stuff you do when someone is just sitting in a hospital bed wanting to go home, I even recorded a short video of her waving her finger with the clip on it saying hi. The therapist came in and discussed what we would need to do for home care, we were making plans for her to be released on Monday. The next day, Saturday, when we came in she wouldn't wake up and she had a breathing tube, they said her lungs were filling with liquid and we gave them the go ahead to drain. At 5 pm I started to head out to get food, but the nurse stopped me and said the doctor would be calling shortly. The result of the call was that he thought she only had about 3 hours, turns out it was only 2...

How can one day she be talking and eating and complaining the TV wasn't loud enough, then the next just gone?

The Everything Test

There are many different types of tests on the internet today. Personality tests, purity tests, stereotype tests, political tests. But now, there is one test to rule them all.

Traditionally, online tests would ask certain questions about your musical tastes or clothing for a stereotype, your experiences for a purity test, or deep questions for a personality test. We're turning that upside down - all the questions affect all the results, and we've got some innovative results too! Enjoy :-)

Reaching to a top shelf, he dropped a jar of yeast in with the rest. "Bee pollen," he grumbled under his breath. "Where in Tink's bordello do they keep the vitamin supplements?"

Tahoe fun

We had girls night out up at Tahoe. Much fun was had by all. We didn't leave until about 2pm because I had a bridal shower to attend. We stopped at a chocolate shop on the way up and spent way too much time there, by the time we got to our room it was time to get ready for dinner. Dinner was very good! I definitely want to go back there. mrsveteran, otterprincess were ready to go to bed at 10pm, so it was lights out. They discovered I am not a morning person, and they definitely are! We went on a breakfast cruise on the MS Dixie, the views were great, the food not so good. I wouldn't recommend it, I would just do a cruise. We then hit some stores, we really needed more time to shop! On the way home we stopped at Denny's and Kristina and the waiter were telling each other bad jokes. Very funny. I took a nap when I got home. I think we need to do a chick flick marathon next. :P

Note: next time check that the hotel has air conditioning...

Yeah, yeah, I know, it's been forever

I feel like I've been in hibernation and now that the sun is coming out I'm perking up a bit.

The biggest thing that has happened recently is my mother had a mild stroke. It actually wasn't a stroke to start with, she had something called a dissection in the blood vessel in the back of her neck. That clotted and caused a stroke, they think. My parents were on vacation up in Oregon in their new RV and she had been having a bad headache for about a week, so they cut short the vacation and just came home. It got really bad on a Saturday, so they took her to emergency, but they sent her home and told her to see her own doctor on Monday. On Monday her doctor had her readmitted. They couldn't figure out what was going on, but at that point she hadn't had the stroke yet. She had the stroke on Tuesday night. So, finally, they had taken enough tests to say that it was a dissection, but they couldn't say for 100% sure. They said she only needs to be on blood thinners for 6 months.

That week at work was the worst ever for personnel. The managers father passed away, so he was out. The supervisor was on vacation. An employee faxed in a doctors note that she would be out the entire week. My mom was in the hospital, so I kept crying. Then on Wendesday another girl had to leave because she got a call that her grandmother died (hadn't died, was in coma). Needless to say, I couldn't deal with all of this and broke down when we heard that Amanda's grandma died. I drove down that night. My work let me take Thursday and Friday off as sick days. Yay for understanding people.

My mom is the worst patient ever when they had her drugged up. I swear to god I had to treat her like a small child. She kept insisting that there were bugs in her room. She wouldn't sit still for any of the MRI or scans they tried to do. She kept getting out of bed and not taking her IV stuff with her. At night when we were getting ready to leave, she said she was leaving too, and actually was trying to get out of bed. We had to let a nurse know that she had to be watched otherwise she would pull her tubes out and leave. The next morning we walked in as they were cleaning up the mess caused by her pulling out her feeding tube. The most noticible effect of the stroke was she couldn't swallow, so after 2 days of no food, they put in a feeding tube. Because she was pretty much fine otherwise, just a little weakness on one side, they let her go home on Friday. So I was there to help my stepfather figure out how to take care of her at home. Except for the shots, that was all him. She was still slurring and had a headache when I left. When the home nurse came to the house she took one look at the feeding tube and said it was way too big. They switched to a smaller one and mom's headache and slurring went mostly away. Amazing.

I'm so glad I went down because my imagination was running away with me. I kept comparing it to my Grandmother's stroke, which was very bad and took at least a year for her to get back to somewhat normal. But she was never Grandma afterwards. She wouldn't argue with anyone, and if anyone knew my Grandma, they knew that wasn't her.

My mom doesn't remember any of the stuff that happened. She remembers a little bit about the bugs, but doesn't remember trying to leave. It turns out that drugs affect her very easily and they were probably overdoing it. Also, valium has the opposite effect on her. It doesn't put her to sleep, it amps her up.

She still has the feeding tube, but she is now able to eat creamy food, like cream of wheat or runny mashed potatoes. So, she's on her way.

It can't be December! I'm not ready!

I want to thank mrsveteran for all the help she did. I wasn't feeling very enthused about cleaning the house for Thanksgiving so I asked her to come over and make sure I kept cleaning, because I get distracted easily. She had on her iPod and sushirob hooked up my iPod to the stereo. So, we pretty much dance/cleaned. My parents came up with their 2 dogs. The puppy is 8 months old now and managed to find some mementos I had on the book shelf, that do look like toys, but darnit they aren't! Thank god she didn't hurt herself, one of them was a pincushion. The house is ferret proofed, and I thought that was good for puppies, but obviously not. sushirob of course made an excellent meal, the turkey was perfect. Yum, now I want a sandwich, but it's all gone, except for the breat he froze! Yay! I had the day after Thanksgiving off, so of course my mom and I hit the stores. We didn't really buy much, though, just the getting out was fun.

Now, I have to start planning for Christmas cookies.

<tr><td align="center">Difficult
Your life has been 42% difficult. </td> </tr> <tr> <td>

Based on your family, money, political context, and personal situation

life was DIFFICULT. What does this mean?

Well, the "difficulty" of your life is a measure of how rough you had
it. Relative to the world, you had a very, very difficult childhood.
I'm not sure what "success" means to you, but whatever it is, you can achieve it. When you do, it'll be that much more impressive.
